Bathrooms can be tricky for plants, but honestly, some species just love the extra humidity from your daily showers! That steamy, rainforest-like atmosphere is a treat for many houseplants, but not every plant is up for the challenge of low light or temperature swings.
Picking plants for your bathroom isn’t rocket science, but you do have to think about light, humidity, and how much time you really want to spend taking care of them.
Some are cool with low light, others need a window nearby. The plants here run the gamut from super chill, low-effort types to those that need a bit more TLC but reward you with gorgeous leaves or flowers.
1) Spider Plant

Spider plants are basically made for bathrooms. They’re tough, don’t mind low light, and seem to thrive on the humidity from your shower. Seriously, if you want something forgiving, this is it.
They’re known for boosting oxygen and cutting down on formaldehyde, which is pretty handy for indoor air. Just tuck them somewhere with a bit of light and they’ll do their thing.
2) Boston Fern

Boston ferns are basically humidity junkies. Bathrooms give them that steamy air they love, and they don’t need much direct sunlight.
They’re also great at filtering out air pollutants, so you get cleaner air without much effort. Stick your fern near a window if you have one, but honestly, the bathroom’s general moisture does most of the work for you.
3) Snake Plant

Snake plants are just about indestructible. They don’t mind low light, love humidity, and barely need watering. If you forget about them for a while, they’ll still be there.
Plus, they help clean the air, which is always a bonus, especially in stuffy bathrooms. Pop one on a shelf or the floor and call it a day.
4) Peace Lily

Peace Lilies are classic for a reason. They put up with low light and soak up humidity, and those glossy leaves and white blooms look pretty sharp.
They’re low fuss and even help purify your air. If you want something that looks a bit fancy but doesn’t demand much, this is a solid pick.
5) Pothos

Pothos is kind of the MVP for dark corners. It doesn’t care much about low light or humidity, so it’s a natural fit for bathrooms without much sun.
Try placing it near the door or in a shady spot. It’ll help clean the air and just looks good draping down from a high shelf.
6) ZZ Plant

ZZ plants are the definition of low-maintenance. They’re fine with low light, only need a drink every couple weeks, and their shiny leaves always look good.
They handle humidity like champs, so bathrooms are perfect. They even store water, so you don’t have to hover over them.
7) Philodendron

Philodendrons are pretty forgiving. They’ll hang in there even if your bathroom doesn’t get much sun, as long as there’s some indirect light, they’re happy.
Heartleaf types are especially easygoing. Minimal care, and the humidity gives them a boost. If you forget to water now and then, they’ll probably forgive you.
8) Air Plants (Tillandsia)

Air plants are honestly just fun. They don’t even need soil, just air and a bit of moisture, which makes bathrooms a prime spot.
They love soaking up shower steam. Display them however you like: driftwood, shells, whatever works. Just mist them now and then and they’ll be fine.
9) Orchids

Orchids might seem fussy, but they actually love the humidity in most bathrooms. The steam from your shower is basically spa treatment for them.
A lot of orchid varieties are easier than you’d think. Just keep them near a window with filtered light and water once a week, but let the potting mix dry out a bit in between.
10) Bamboo Palm

Bamboo Palms are all about that tropical vibe. They love humidity, and their feathery fronds make any bathroom feel like a mini oasis.
They’ll tolerate low to moderate light, so don’t stress if your bathroom isn’t super bright. They help clean the air, too. Just keep the soil a little moist, but not soggy.
11) Cast Iron Plant
Cast Iron Plants are tough as nails. If you’ve got a dark bathroom and sometimes forget to water, this is your plant.
It shrugs off humidity and temperature swings, and those deep green leaves look great with pretty much any decor. You really don’t have to do much for it, just don’t drown it!
12) Maidenhair Fern
Maidenhair ferns are a bit delicate, but if your bathroom stays humid, they’ll reward you with those gorgeous, lacy fronds.
They’re fine with low light, but you’ll want to keep the soil moist and maybe give them a little mist after your shower.
13) English Ivy
English Ivy is a champ in low light and humidity. It’ll trail nicely from a hanging pot or shelf, and doesn’t need much water.
The ivy genus Hedera is pretty adaptable, and English Ivy is especially easygoing. It’s a classic for a reason.
14) Chinese Evergreen
Chinese Evergreen is one of those plants that just shrugs off dim light and loves a humid bathroom. If your space doesn’t have a window, this one’s worth a try.
It’s super easy to care for (barely needs watering), and the variegated leaves brighten things up a bit. Plus, it’s good for the air.
15) Prayer Plant
Prayer Plants are fascinating, as they literally fold their leaves up at night, like they’re praying. They’re happiest with lots of humidity and indirect light.
If you can give them a window, great, but they’ll manage in lower light too. Just keep the soil damp and enjoy those patterned leaves.
16) Aluminum Plant
The Aluminum Plant (Pilea cadierei) is a compact little plant with flashy silver markings. Bathrooms work well for it, since it loves humidity.
It’ll do best with moderate to bright indirect light, but can handle a bit less (though the color might fade). Just water when the top bit of soil dries out, and the bathroom’s steam does the rest.
17) Silver Satin Pothos
Silver Satin Pothos is a stunner with its silvery leaves, and it’s another plant that thrives in a steamy bathroom. It’s great on shelves or cabinets where the vines can spill over the edge.
Easy to propagate if you want more, and it won’t freak out if you forget to water here and there. A little misting now and then keeps the foliage looking sharp.
18) Parlor Palm
The Parlor Palm is surprisingly happy in bathrooms, especially if you’ve got indirect light and decent humidity. It’s a compact palm, so it fits nicely on a shelf or counter.
Consistent humidity helps keep those feathery fronds lush, and you won’t need to fuss with it much. Just don’t let it dry out completely.
19) Staghorn Fern
Staghorn ferns just love a steamy bathroom, as humidity is kind of their thing! They’re epiphytes, so in the wild, you’d find them hanging out on tree trunks in tropical forests. No wonder they do well in the moist air by your shower.
The plant grows two kinds of fronds: shield fronds, which help it stick to surfaces, and those funky antler ones that grab moisture and nutrients from the air.
20) Peperomia
Peperomia really does well in bathrooms, probably because of all that extra humidity floating around. These little houseplants don’t seem to mind low light, so if your bathroom window is tiny they’ll still hang in there.
Their thick, fleshy leaves are great at holding onto water, so you won’t need to fuss over them too much. Peperomias can be showered or washed down if they get dusty and since their root systems are pretty small, you can tuck them onto a shelf or squeeze them onto the edge of your sink without much trouble.
