This job seemed straightforward for the team called in to drain a pond with a mysterious leak and rescue the fish inside. The catch? Nobody knew exactly where the leak was coming from, and the pond had turned into a bit of a jungle, with thick weeds, sludge, and a whole bunch of shy koi hiding under a bridge.

Their mission: drain the pond, catch all the fish, and prepare the pond for what might become a wildlife haven. The pond hadn’t been maintained in a while, and the filtration system was practically sealed shut with concrete, making repairs impossible for now. As they lowered the water level, the fish started to reveal themselves – big koi, goldfish, and some little “babies” that looked like goldfish but might be koi too.

They carefully sifted through the weeds, making sure no fish or other critters got left behind. Instead of bagging up the weeds and tossing them, they placed them under nearby hedges so any wildlife could crawl out safely. It was like a mini ecosystem rescue!

After catching all the fish, they transported them back to their setup, acclimating them to tanks filled with clean, temperature-matched water. The haul included several large koi, plenty of goldfish, and some colorful red and silver fish that might find new homes soon. A few frogs were found hiding in the sludge, reminding them that ponds are more than just fish tanks – they’re bustling habitats.

The pond itself was left to fill naturally with rainwater, with some cleanup done but no major renovation planned yet. Whether it stays a wildlife pond or gets filled in remains undecided.
